Last weekend hailed the return of Europe's favourite camp-tastic event, the Eurovision song contest a.k.a. Gay Christmas. And, this year’s winner is a game changer, not just for the crossdresser community, but for the world over. Austrian singer Conchita Wurst won the competition with her stunning rendition of “Rise Like a Phoenix”.Dubbed “the bearded lady”, it’s unclear how, or if, Conchita prefers to identify within the glorious and all-encompassing crossdressing spectrum. Born Tom Neuwirth, the singer created Conchita as an alter-ego character, and has previously competed in national singing competitions as a male. So, let’s take a moment to look behind the beard, and see what wisdom Conchita has to share: Haters Gonna HateConchita has shared words of wisdom on the subject of hate and discrimination with surprising calm. Instead of trying to fight those who have criticised and discriminated against her, she is letting her win speak for itself “I believe everything happens for a reason”. We couldn’t agree more, the world needs more fabulous bearded ladies!Facial Hair is SexyConchita’s unconventional approach to her look goes against the drag handbook of doing anything possible to hide your 5-o'clock shadow. The radiant songstress rocked a smoky eye, glamorous tousled tresses, couture golden gown and, naturally, a big bushy beard! And...it kinda worked (or werked if you want to throw-down).Backlash is the Wurst! The win has been deemed controversial by some, however, Conchita has proved herself to be a class act, taking any negative response in her stride and acknowledging the burden that one must bear as a fabulous queen. In a statement to the press, Conchita said that the backlash will "remain an issue for a long time and I fear I won't see the end of it in my lifetime. It will be my life's worth and I gladly take it on” - fighting the corner for those who don’t bend to rules imposed by society. Fight for Your RightConchita plans to use her win to spread acceptance, capitalizing on her 15-minutes with good-will. “It was not just a victory for me, but a victory for those people who believe in a future that can function without discrimination, and is based on tolerance and respect".Conchita is The End of MankindThe following are the words of Russian nationalist politician, Vladimir Zhirinovsky. "There's no limit to our outrage! It's the end of Europe. It has turned wild. They don't have men and women anymore.” Um… it’s just a little makeup Vlad, don’t get your knickers in a twist!Fancy injecting a bit of Conchita’s glamour into your life?
